With heavy hearts, the family of Donald “Donnie” Ernest Waugh announce his peaceful passing on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Fredericton, NB, on February 25, 1938, he was the beloved son of the late Claude and Marjorie (Dunphy) Waugh.
Donnie was a devoted family man who cherished his loved ones above all else. Kind, caring, compassionate, and humble, he was a steady and reassuring presence, always ready to lend a hand or offer quiet support. His family was his greatest pride and constant focus.
Sixty years ago, he married the love of his life, Nancy (née Williams). Together they built a life filled with dedication, laughter, and enduring love, raising their family and sharing countless happy memories. Though Donnie was happiest at home, he would occasionally be persuaded by Nancy to set out on a new adventure.
Known for his gift of storytelling and his playful sense of humor, Donnie could often be found tinkering away on a project, rarely sitting still for long. In his earlier years, he worked at Ellis Motors before purchasing his own dump truck and taking pride in contract work for various local businesses. Following retirement, he enjoyed beginning each day with coffee and conversation with friends at Tim Horton’s on Hickey Road.
Donnie had a remarkable ability to see the good in everyone he met, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Nancy; his daughter, Wendy Doran (Greg); his grandson, Geoffrey Wortman (Leah); and his cherished great-grandchildren, Audrina and Hunter; along with several nieces and nephews. Donnie was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his infant son, Donald Andrew; his grandson, Reilly; and his sisters, Audrey Braid (Murray), Shirley Hersey (Don), and Claudia McKeil (Neil).
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB, on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Funeral Service will follow in the Fundy Chapel at 2:00 p.m., with interment at Fernhill Cemetery. To view the live-streaming of the service, please click here.
