Edna Jean (Northrup) Hanson

With sadness and a sense of peace for a long life well lived, we announce the peaceful passing of our mom, Edna Jean (Northrup) Hanson on May 19, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 96.  She was born in Saint John, NB on November 27, 1919 to the late Amos and Alice (Milberry) Northrup and was the loving wife to her late husband Roy Hanson.

Edna loved to be around family. She was a homemaker and devoted every moment to ensuring her family was happy and healthy and looked after.  No one ever came over without leaving well fed.  She entertained her guests, not only with her delicious meals and a hot pot of tea, but with her sense of humor.  Edna was quite a character.

She is fondly remembered by her children; Ron (Connie) and Carol Hanson of Saint John, NB; Sherry Hanson of Salisbury, NB; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, sister Loretta Tayes of Saint John, NB along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with her parents and husband, Edna was predeceased by her son Gerald, daughters; Jean (Leo) McNulty, Sandra Garnett, and Laura Hatfield, as well as siblings; Alphonse, Beatrice, Helen, George, Viola, and Mary.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424), with visitation held on Sunday and Monday, from 2-4 and 6-8pm.  A funeral service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 10am with interment to follow in Fernhill Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Edna may be placed to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
